Kalimar Inc. Established in 1954, founded founded by Bob Lipsitz. The goal of the company as a distributor was to import cameras from different counries mainly Japan into the United States. Among their first imports were the Aires 35mm cameras. Eventually, cameras bearing the Kalimar name were manufactured or imported from various countries including Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Germany ant the USSR. Based on some patents files by Robert Lipsitz, it seems they alsomanufactured a number of products. Several trademarks have been filed by Kalimar like Dura-Flex (1983), Auto-cube (1966), Kalimar (1974), Day-Glo (1989), Spirit 1 Fun (1993) and others.

Kalimar Inc. started importing Aires 35 cameras from Japan to the U.S.A. The Kalimar Company of St. Louis, Missouri was acquired by the Tiffen Company of Long Island on December 13, 1999. Both companies specialize in supplying photo/imaging accessories to amateur and professional photographers. With this most recent acquisition, Tiffen expands its product base into a number of new lines and also gains entre into key mass distribution channels.
