Weimarlux

Both Weimarlux and Werralux exposure meters are products of "VEB Feingerätewerk Weimar" a former east German factory of fine mechanics.

Short history of the company
Uhrenwerk Weimar (Vormals VEB Feingerätewerk Weimar )

Established at Juli the firts 1950 as company manufacturing office equipment and alarm clock glass. In that time (1951) 25 employees and start of the production of the "Weimar alarm clocks". In the year 1953 the number of employees was increased to aprox. 350

1953 - 1956 incorporated in the union of the "VEB Carl Zeiss Jena" as an independant part of the company. Manufacturing of sound cine equipment TK 35, the home 8 mm cine projector "Weimar" and manual exposure meters "Weimar Lux" also manufacturing of big timepieces. In 1956 the number of eployees has increased to aprox. 1000.

1956 Exit from the union of "VEB Carl Zeiss Jena" and again an indipendant and stand alone company.
1958-1959 Reorganisation of the company with 2 major pruduction entities :

1. start of the production of gold plated timepiece cases ment for the GDR (DDR) timepiece production.
2. Manufacturing of exposure meters to incorporate into camera's for photo and cine made in the GDR (DDR.)

1960 first of January, incorporation of the company into VVB Mechanik. Manufacturing of high precision parts for clocks like scales and pointers intended for GDR (DDR) main clock production who bought these products before , also gold plated clock cases, mainly in West Germany and France.

1967 Eingliederung des jetzigen Uhrenwerkes Weimar in das am 01. 03.1967 neu gegründete VEB Uhren- und Maschinenkombinat Ruhla. Gleichzeitig begann man mit der Eingliederung bzw.Schaffung neuer Fertigungsbereiche in Blankenhain (1967), Gotha, Bad Berka, Frankenberg, Höckendorf, Cemnitz (damals Karl-Marx-Stadt) und Dresden. Die Anzahl der beschäftigten stieg bis 1976 auf ca. 1500.
1990 Im Zuge der Entflechtung und Privatisierung der Volkseigenen Kombinate und Betriebe der damaligen DDR, wird das Uhrenwerk Weimar aus dem VEB Uhren- und Maschinenkombinat Ruhla herausgelöst und kommt unter die Verwaltung der Treuhand.

Damit endet die Geschichte eines Betriebes, der u.a. 40 Jahre ein wichtiger Bestandteileil der Uhrenproduktion der damaligen DDR war.
